Resident Evil Requiem &c.

I rolled credits on Resident Evil Requiem for the first time the other day. I must say, I was very impressed with the experience overall.

Spoilers.

I’m just going to start off by saying that I think this is a 10/10 game. I had more fun playing this game then I’ve had playing a game in a very long time. There was a point in the RPD when I felt as if I had mainlined an illicit substance. I’d like to do a longer form run-down of Requiem as well as my personal experience and take on the Resident Evil series as a whole. Time will tell if that comes to fruition.

In the Midst of Adventures

There are a few other games in either dabbling in or have started but yet to finish. Let’s take a look:

Dragon Quest V (DS): I’ve been slowly working my way through this one. I’m a newcomer to the Dragon Quest series. I’ve always been a Final Fantasy fan, and I was sleeping on Dragon Quest. The entire game design philosophy of a Dragon Quest game is starkly different than that of a Final Fantasy game, and I found it to be a refreshing change of pace. Also, there are things about Dragon Quest that remind me of EarthBound, and I love to see it.

Slay the Spire 2 (PC): Currently in Early Access. I don’t normally buy Early Access games, but considering I love the OG Slay the Spire, and the Steam reviews for the sequel were amazing, I decided to try it out. (Also, the devs say the game will cost more when it’s officially released.) I haven’t played it extensively but I enjoyed my time with it. It seems like they took the core game and improved upon it. I’m looking forward to the full version and, more importantly, its release on mobile.

Monster Hunter Rise (Switch): I picked this game up for a steal on sale. I haven’t put too much time into it. Initially, I do have some mixed feelings coming from Monster Hunter Generation Ultimate. There are many things that were streamlined in Rise, which I simultaneously appreciate and lament. I can’t help but feel like some of the magic is lost for the sake of efficiency. I do look forward to getting further into this game.

There are more, but I’m not going to get into them today.
